Top Text Editing Software for Writers by a Writer

I’ve dabbled with writing for years, since high school actually. I’m not certain why I didn’t pursue it for a career when I left high school. I think I had so many issues to deal with when I first got out on my own, I didn’t know which way was up. Then I did military service. All through that time until November 2011, when I decided to pursue writing seriously, I penned the occasional something that was more than just a note or to-do list.

Oddly enough, it was when I started reconnecting with high school friends that I started thinking about becoming an author. For some reason, when I graduated from high school, I had lost contact with all of my friends. So, when I reconnected with my old friend A.P., I learned about self publishing. It was no longer a process of putting together a book and spending $1K or more to have it printed. I think paying to have a book published is what is defined as the vanity press of the 80’s.

Now, I self publish. My collection of short stories is out on Smashwords. I recommend Smashwords, hands down, for any author thinking of publishing their work themselves. A Voice From an Inner World is undergoing a revamp, but the first edition is still available. I hope to complete a second collection of short stories, Of Black Holes and Universes, by the end of 2015. It’s not only the reconnection with A.P. that got me going. I discovered Scrivener. Scrivener is a powerful text editing software designed for writers by writer, Keith Blount. I’ve written an article about Scrivener on HubPages. The article includes an interview with Keith.

Though I’d already started on the road to becoming a writer, the discovery of Scrivener became the true catalyst to initiating that quest. I know that for any writer not using Keith’s very useful writing tool, they’re missing out. You can even get Scrivener on Amazon for Windows and for Mac. The home for Scrivener is on Literature and Latté. Don’t forget about Novel in a Day (NIAD), we meet up on Literature and Latté once a year.

A Chat and a Cuppa with Author Erica Miner

Today’s visit is with Erica Miner, author of novel, Murder in the Pit.  Take a moment to read the full interview on Squidoo.

I read this book as soon as I could get my hands on a copy.  I had seen it promoted in an eMag over a year ago and knew I just had to read it.  I’ve always appreciated classical music, opera and other artistic presentations.  Having been in the trenches, Erica’s writing reflects that rich culture and its influence.  While reading this clever mystery, I could just as easily been sitting in a seat at the Met, her writing style is that visual.  The pace is quick and there’s sweet romance (if not a little terse in places), and most importantly a knotty puzzle to unravel.

How do you keep yourself motivated to write? Writing is my passion; there’s nothing else I love to do quite as much. So motivation is not usually a problem. I just have all these stories to tell. Why wait?  Erica Miner, see full interview.

And, When You Are Visited By A Giant Squid …

… offer them lady fingers.

#squidoo #arachnea

I’m up to thirty-five Squidoo articles (lenses), thirty-three trophies (experience badges) and have reached level fifty-five.  A return to work is looming over head, so I’m trying to keep my spirits up.  It seems I’m constantly being reminded (not that I forget) what a great community Squidoo can be.  It, like so many things, is what you make of it, but even the littlest effort reaps great reward on Squidoo and that’s even before I am eligible to start earning for my efforts as well.  Please take a look see at my Giant Squid post.  Considering joining Squidoo, click this link now.

Look, Ma! I’m a Giant Squid

#squidoo #arachnea #giantsquid

Youtrophy giant squid club‘ve probably seen my posts over the last several months listing my various lenses (pages or articles on Squidoo.com). So what is Squidoo?

“Squidoo is a community website platform that allows users to create pages (called lenses)  for subjects which interest them, and to use those pages to sell products for profit or charitable donation. The site reportedly had 1.5 million “hand-built lenses” as of October 2010.” Wikipedia

For me, Squidoo is an outlet for me to write about things that interest me, things that I know about, and things that I want to know more about.  Squidoo is also a community comprised mostly of like-minded people.  By like-minded, I mean people for whom quality content, interesting topics and community spirit is an important part of their virtual efforts pertaining to writing.

Being a part of Squidoo isn’t without certain benefits.  Regular recognition of a job well done (or lens well-written) is part and parcel to being part of the squidoo community.  Trophies are one of the ways that lensmasters (writers on Squidoo.com) are given a pat on the back for striving for excellence.  Lens which have original content, are trophy giant squidnot spammy, and are well written can be awarded a purple star or even Lens of the Day. And, as the quote says above, there are ways to earn money for profit or for charity.

Speaking of Charity, Squidoo was designed to help raise money for a worthy cause.  Not only does Squidoo allocate 50% of revenue to lensmasters, it also makes large contributions to charity.  Squidoo was founded in 2005.

Because Squidoo is in line with my own goals, I’ve put a great deal of effort into publishing articles (lenses) to the website.  You’ll find me here.  In a reward for my efforts I’ve been made a Giant Squid and admitted to the Giant Squid club.  What does it mean to be a Giant Squid?

The Giant Squids is a club of dedicated lensmasters on Squidoo.” bdkz

A note on the monster system on Squidoo.  Monsters are they cute little critters which herald a lensmaster’s successes and experience point milestones.  Everything about Squidoo is focused on quality and encouraging quality in lensmasters.  Members with other goals and interests counter to the Squidoo design don’t realize success for their efforts.  Visit my link, Things That Made Life Easier As A Newbie On Squidoo.
